The "Old Jail," Heard County's Historical Center and Museum, built in 1912, is located on the
Franklin Square. This Romanesque Revival structure was placed on the National Registry of
Historic Places in 1980. Learn about Heard's rural heritage, do in-depth genealogical study or tour
the intriguing jail and gallows. The highlight of your visit is learning about Miss Mayhaley
Lancaster, a local legend and a pivotal character in the best-selling novel and movie, "Murder in
