Footloose Remake Scenes to be shot on Chattahoochee Bridge in Franklin!
|
Paramount Pictures will be shooting of a remake of Footloose, a film from 1984
starring Kevin Bacon, and will include a stop off in Franklin to film a scene for the
movie sometime in late October, local sources say. The site for filming will be the
Chattahoochee Bridge in Franklin on Franklin Parkway (old Highway 27). The
Department of Transportation and local officials were seen on the bridge last week
looking at the site with the production team from the film.
The Chattahoochee Bridge will be closed for approximately one week during the
filming. The production company has been in contact with several local officials in
Franklin/Heard County as well as the Department of Transportation, the Department
of Natural Resources, and the Corp of Engineers as they make plans to shoot the
scene.
The scene, sources say, will be an automobile accident where a vehicle crashes
through the bridge railing and goes into the river. Film crews plan to remove
sections of the existing guardrails, concrete barrier, and light poles to install
breakaway materials for the shot. Mini-barges will be docked in the river to allow for
filming from below.
The GA DOT will be posting traffic advisories as the date approaches warning of
the closing and marking out the detour around.
The Chattahoochee Bridge was closed last September by the GA DOT due to
excessive flooding and build up of debris around the supports for the bridge.
Sources also say that the majority of the rest of the movie will be filmed in Senoia,
GA, just an hour down the road from Heard County.
More information will be posted as it is released. The production company will be
sending out press releases in September.

From Location Manger:
Hello All,
I just wanted to follow up from our previous conversations re: Footloose filming at the McCutchen
Bridge in Franklin.
Two things have changed since my proposal:
1- We would like to film at NIGHT on THURSDAY, OCT 14 and FRIDAY, OCT 15. This is one week
earlier than our previous request.
2- We will not be affecting the actual structure of the bridge and the stunt will not involve the car
going over the rail into the water. We may still have support boats, lighting, etc. and need access to
the river, but our scenes do not involve the car entering the water.
To properly prepare for this work, I am requesting bridge closure from Tuesday, Oct. 12th thru
Tuesday, October 19th. This would allow us enough time to place our equipment and set pieces (light
poles on the bridge), while allowing time to rehearse as well. We would be idle on Sat. and Sun and
would come back Monday and Tuesday to restore everything to its original state.
Please let me know if you have any questions or if this presents any challenges. We look forward to
working with you all. Thanks!

Update On P.T. McCutchen Sr. Bridge Closure
that the P.T. McCutchen Sr. Bridge would not close as originally scheduled. The plans were for the
bridge to close at 8a.m. on Tuesday, October 12th until the afternoon hours on Tuesday, October
19th.
Chief Kevin Hannah spoke with a representative from Paramount Productions on Tuesday morning,
who stated that the new plans are for crews to begin arriving on Wednesday, October 13th at 8a.m.
The current plans are for the bridge to remain open but with lane closures until 8a.m. on Thursday,
October 14th, at which time the bridge will completely close. The updated schedule indicates that the
bridge will remain closed as originally planned, until the afternoon hours on Tuesday, October 19th.
“As the Franklin Police Department is notified of changes regarding the bridge closure, we will
immediately notify the public through our website, emails and other local media. We were also
informed that the bridge may reopen sooner that originally scheduled depending on the progress
made by Paramount Productions. Detour routes and advisories will be posted by Georgia Department
of Transportation for motorist who are not familiar with the area,” stated Chief Hannah.
